With a Bachelor of Law from the University of Otago, Ben’s particular areas of interest include commercial, property, and resource management law. Before returning to New Zealand in 2012, Ben was employed for two years by Hetherington Exploration & Mining Title Services in Sydney as a mining titles consultant. He provided legal advice to exploration and mining companies including Rio Tinto, Straits Resources, and Gloucester Coal. His day-to-day role involved investigating the implications of prospecting and mining activities, pursuant to mining, environmental, and planning legislation.
Prior to his move to Australia, Ben worked for AWS Legal based in Queenstown, and has previously worked with many of the Aspiring Law team members. He knows Queenstown, Wanaka, and the surrounding areas well, and spent his time at AWS Legal focusing on commercial and property law.
Ben’s first professional job in the legal arena was as staff solicitor at Auckland based firm Stace Hammond Barristers and Solicitors, where he specialised in commercial, property, and finance law.
A keen believer in giving back to the community, Ben has helped out at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Queenstown, providing free advice to the general public on a wide range of legal issues.
When he’s not at the office, Ben is a lover of the great outdoors, and he can be found snowboarding, wakeboarding, playing tennis, or enjoying a round of golf. Before coming to Aspiring Law, Ben had been working at the ANZ bank as a personal account manager in the local Wanaka branch. Ben was born and raised in Wanaka, so naturally he was bound to come back.
